World AIDS Day-2008-Stop AIDS Keep The Promise

1st December is World AIDS Day and is it's 20th Anniversary. This day is celebrated all over the world to raise awareness about the deadly epidemic of HIV AIDS. Around 25 million people died of AIDS between 1981 to 2007 and around 33 million people are still living with AIDS today. Every day around 8000 people die of this deadly HIV disease.

World AIDS Day was originated in 1988 at the World Summit Of Ministers of Health on Programmes for AIDS prevention. Since then it is celebrated every ear around the world on 1st December. Every year it has different themes for celebration. The year 2008 AIDS Day celebration theme is Stop AIDS: Keep The Promise

HIV- Human Immunodeficiency Virus is responsible to cause Acquired Immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) a condition where immune system in human fails and which can lead to opportunistic life threatening infections.

HIV infection occurs due to transfer of blood, semen, vaginal fluid, pre-ejaculate, and breast milk. It can be present in these body fluid as free virus particle or as virus within infected immune cells. The four major cause of HIV AIDS infection are Unprotected Sexual Intercourse, Contaminated needles, Breast Milk and transmission from mother to baby. Read more at wikipedia

Since anyone can become a victim of AIDS so each one should know about this deadly HIV disease and let us spread AIDS awareness to protect themselves from AIDS. After all prevention is better than cure and AIDS has no cure till date.
