Maharashtrians Tops in PAN Card Allotment

Since PAN card has been made mandatory for Indians and it is mandatory to furnish PAN details for opening a bank account, Investment in Mutual Funds, Opening D'Mat account and several other activities, due to which more individuals from all over India are applying for PAN card. But which state is no. 1 in PAN card allotment ? An official data published by Income Tax department shows that Maharashtra State was No. 1 in terms of allotment of PAN card to individuals in 2008 calander year. In Maharashtra Total 32,49,467 PAN card was allotted to individuals in 2008 and 6,58,878 PAN card was alloted in just around two months in 2009. Uttar Pradesh holds the second position by total 17,30,798 PAN card allottment to individuals.
